News and blog

Following on with our plan, we're now going to create the news and blog categories, as children of the two respective sections containeris. Doing this is easy.

Begin by going to the page for one of your sections containers, and clicking the add child categoryi link. On the node form page, enter news as the title of the node. That's all you need to fill in: the container and parenti of the category have already been filled in for you, and all the other category-related settings are simply inherited from the sections container.

In fact, you don't even have to enter any body text for your category (but you can if you want). With the category and container node types, the body field is optional: when you consider the presence of such things as hidden containeris and free tagging categories, the reasoning behind this becomes clear.

Once you've submitted your news category, go to the page for your other sections container, and repeat the process, this time calling your child category blog. Submit the blog category.

Creating the master categories
The news and blog categories are listed as children of articles, even though the hidden sections containers are actually in between.

Now, go to the articles page. You should see a menu structure, a table of contents, and navigation links that reflect the category hierarchyi that you've just created - except that the hidden containers are ignored. Well done - the foundations of your site's structure are now in place.

Menu display order vs ToC display order

In the picture above, the 'Articles' menu display in the left sidebar and the 'Articles' ToC display in the content area both follow the alphabetical order. This is because Jaza has ordered the ToC by giving the 'sections (blog)' containeri a lighter weighti than the 'sections (news)' container.

Without the lighter weight for the 'sections (blog)' container, the menu display defaults to an alphabetical order while to ToC display defaults to the order in which the categories are created. See http://drupal.org/node/58727 for a screenshot.

According to Jaza, although this behaviour "may seem a bit strange, it is actually working correctly. The way the categoryi_display TOC works, is that it orders items first by container order, and then by category order. This can get a bit confusing when you're using hidden containeris".

A point to keep in mind when working with hidden containers in general and if you are very picky about keeping things perfectly lined up:-)

how to disply TOC?

how do i go on about doing that? i am so lost :S

A very complex and large category hierarchy

Hello.
i am here with a very large and complex hierarchyi. (http://www.cityhistories.net) i have followed the instructions so far but i am stuck here. i get an error. First let me explain my hierarchy -
i have a Parent containerii called "continents" similar to the aricles here.
under that i am 7 hidden regions (africa, asia, amercia, europe..) similar to the hidden sections child container here.
now i need to add alot of countries as categories under these child containers, for example i need to add Fiji, newzeland, Australia under the hidden child container named Ocenia.
But the issue is the users will have to have the ability to post comments under these categories. They do not need to have the permission to open new pages or stories under these categories.

So when i try to add for example fiji under Australia i get this error:
(please also note that i am enabling read and write comments for this categoryii to let the users post their comments)

the error: An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator.
and
Parent: *
(root) is in red color.
Parent category or container. Containers are marked with an asterisk (*).

i have absolutely no idea what is wrong here. or is the whole approach wrong?
Please help.
Thank you
