Taxonomy access semi-compatible with category

|

The categoryi module has just been tested with the popular taxonomy access control (TAC) module, and the results are mixed. Access to assigned nodeis is controlled correctly through TAC, but creating new assigned nodes and viewing node listings is not being controlled at all. This behaviour should prove adequate for many situations, but obviously is not adequate for everything.

I am working on a module to provide full compatibility between TAC and category, for situations where restricting access to assigned nodes is not enough, and where users require a restriction of access to actual categories and containeris, and to creating new nodes assigned to certain categories. In the meantime, feel free to make use of the functionality that works now (and what works now is the key functionality of assigned-node access control).

Future Plans, etc...

Are there plans in place to continue testing and to develop further interoperability with taxonomy_access? I have many sites heavily invested in taxonomy* already. I'm going to try Category on a site for a new project I'm working, but I think that taxonomy_access style control is very necessary in nearly every type of site I've ever done.

I'll obviously discover this the deeper I get in to Category, but let me ask up front, since I don't see it in the docs:
Is there any type of access control built in to Category?

Thanks for any help with these questions!

No

No, there is no access control built in to categoryi. Category has a module called cac_lite included with it, but this is not powerful enough for many people's needs. Taxonomy access is the recommended access module to be used in conjunction with category, and there will definitely be more work happening in the future, to improve its compatibility with category. Category also works with most other node access modules.

I am also very interested

I am also very interested in using Taxonomy Access with Category Module. I am considering switching from the Taxonomy Module to your Category Module and then install Taxonomy Access on a new 4.7 site with minimal content (see G2TT link below); what makes me hesitate is that I am not a developer, and if something is not working, I can't do the code tweaking I saw some developers do and report in other threads (example)...

Forums

Has there been any progress on this?

I have a major issue on a new site being developed with the Catagory module & Taxonomy Access, in that I can't make Private Forums (in any sensible, normal, BB way; which of course is partially a Drupal issue).

Well, I can make them... but people can make posts in them. After that, they can't actually *see* their posts...that bit works...but they can make posts.

Basically, the "View" flag is being obeyed, but the "Create" flag isn't.

Related to this but not as critical, there is no way for the corresponding Menu items to be configured by role; blocks can be via a bit of PHP, but there isn't anything possible on Menus. (i.e. give the ability for certain menu items to only appear to particular roles).

Hello, I am also very

Hello, I am also very interested in the prospects of this module. Right now I'm working with simple access which works well on a granular level, but the ability to do whole categories is more than just appealling.

Sql Errors

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this but maybe someone can help me. I have drupal 4.7.4, categoryi 4.7.0 and taxonomy_access 4.7.0 installed and enabled. I have installed the taxonomy and book module wrapperis but when viewing my site or adding new containeris I get a few sql erros like the following:

# warning: pg_query() [function.pg-query]: Query failed: ERROR: relation "sequences" does not exist in drupal-4.7.4/includes/database.pgsql.inc on line 94.
# user warning: query: SELECT * FROM sequences WHERE name = 'vocabulary_vid' in drupal-4.7.4/includes/database.pgsql.inc on line 113.

Is there something that I haven't done or setup correctly? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Any updates on full TAC compatibility?

I know this post is a few years old, but I wanted to see if any progress had been made on any kind of access control module as full-featured as TAC, that works with Category -- this would include adjustments to the Taxonomy wrapperi that makes TAC itself work. I am not asking to complain, but just would like to be pointed in the right direction so that if I continue to develop access control module code for Category, I don't repeat what may have already been done.

Thanks,
matt
